Portable easel with your own hands. We make an easel with our own hands. Assembled easel

Today I will tell you how to make an easel with your own hands, since easels in the store cost around 4000 rubles, the same easel will cost you only 400 rubles.
Making this easel is easy.

We will need slats measuring 20x45, 2 meters each - 5 pieces. We cut them into the following sizes:
168 cm - 2 pcs.,
154 cm - 1 pc.,
146 cm - 1 pc.,
53 cm - 1 pc.,
39 cm - 1 pc.,
60 cm - 3 pcs.

Now we put a 146 cm rail - this is the basis of our easel.

Relative to it, we lay out horizontal slats measuring 39 and 53 cm.

We retreat 55 cm and lay out a horizontal rail measuring 39 cm. For the lower rail, we retreat from below 3 centimeters. Side rails can be removed for now, we need them.

Now in the center of the transverse rails we make a hole with a drill.

Next, we need to lay them out exactly in the center of the river 146 cm. And so this is what we get:

Now we need to lay out the 168 cm side rails. The rails should be symmetrical

Now, using a drill, we make holes for the screws and fasten our side rails with the help of self-tapping screws.

Now we remake the leg of our easel. To do this, we take the usual door hinge. Fasten first to the easel then to the rail. Let's make it as if in expanded form. Here's what should happen:

Now it remains to make only a shelf for the easel.
For this you will need:

  • 3 slats of 60 cm
  • Nails
  • Drill
  • 2 bolts with wing nuts

We drill two holes in two 60 cm rails just above the middle.

Next we make a shelf for the easel. To do this, we connect two slats of 60 centimeters each and fasten them with nails.

Now we take our third rail and with the help of bolts and nuts "lamb" we install our shelf on the easel.

The easel is ready.

I hope this guide was helpful to you. If you suddenly have any questions, ask in the comments, I will be happy to answer them.

Those who love to paint labor-intensive and rather large paintings often go out into nature with paints and canvas or paper. Without a doubt, an artist, even a beginner, needs an easel. This device is very convenient for drawing beautiful and neat works. An easel is simply indispensable for an artist, but in specialized workshops this thing is unreasonably expensive. Since its design is quite simple, you can easily make an easel with your own hands. To do this, you do not need to be a highly qualified carpenter at all, you just need to have the necessary tools and materials on hand, and these are:

Plywood sheet 100x60cm, 3-4mm thick;

Four wooden beams 6x2cm thick and 2m long;

Several screws, nails, and two hinges;

Jigsaw for woodworking;

Sandpaper and file;

Hammer.

And now let's take a closer look at how to make an easel with your own hands. So, prepare the bars and plywood. Keep in mind that you are making this design for yourself, so try to adjust its proportions so that you are comfortable. A standard easel usually has a height of 150-170cm, which is enough for an adult, tall enough person to use the product. Also decide how you are going to draw - standing or sitting, since the above dimensions are calculated for a "sitting" easel.

Now, to do it, you need to make the main elements of the future design, and the first thing you need to make is the legs. From the prepared bars, saw off even, equal in length, four parts. In the same way, fastenings for the legs are made. It is best that they are slightly longer than the width of the plywood sheet. The blanks must be sanded in advance with emery. It is not necessary to explain that if this is not done, there is a great chance to drive yourself a splinter. Any processing of parts must be done before they start assembling the structure, otherwise the grinding process will be extremely inconvenient, longer and very energy consuming.

Continuing to make an easel with your own hands, you need to fasten the legs well. This is done with the help of chops. They are made from dry wood and have a diameter of 2-2.2 cm. Two chop should be slightly longer than the width of the plywood sheet (the legs will be fastened with them at the bottom), and adjust the two “by eye”, measuring the required distance between the legs at the top. Fastening in two places will make the structure more durable. When making an easel with your own hands, take an ordinary utility drill and make two small, about 2 cm in diameter, holes in those places of the legs where you plan to install the mount. Ideally, the chopsticks should be driven into the holes with some force. To make the design even more durable, you can lubricate the fasteners with glue.

If you, making an easel with your own hands, are going to make a non-folding structure, then you can fasten all the details with ordinary nails, but it’s still better for the product to fold, so it will take up less storage space. Now that both pairs of legs are ready, they need to be fastened together. This is done with loops. They are installed 5 centimeters from the edge of the rails. The hinges are fixed to the cross rail with screws. On the two front legs, you need to install transverse rails, to which a sheet of plywood is nailed. It can also be screwed on with screws. In order for the structure to withstand mechanical damage, temperature fluctuations, and to endure moisture on it, it must be treated with paint or varnish. It will also give the product a more aesthetic appearance.

That's all, it remains to let the easel dry well, and you can safely proceed to your favorite pastime. After all, it is much more convenient to draw behind it than at a table, because this way you can always just step back and look at your work from a sufficient distance. This will allow you to see some inaccuracies in the drawing, which you will never see when drawing at the table.

And site visitors!

Today I want to introduce you to another of my creations. Since I have a main hobby and I love to draw, I would like to present to your attention a folding easel.

To make it, we need:
Drill and drills of different diameters
Grinder with saw blade and lnpest discs
Curly screwdriver
Five bolts with washers and nuts
wooden planks
Tape measure and pencil
Wood screws, small nails
Small loop.

Step 1. Take planks to start

We need four of them. My legs will be 160 centimeters long.
Plank for sliding canvas holders 150 centimeters.
Step 2. We saw off the length we need. We grind the blanks.

Now we round off the upper ends of the slats in advance, as shown in the diagram and drill holes for fasteners in them. 1.5-2 centimeters from the edge.

Step 3. Now we take the bar, which will serve to change the height of the canvas stand and its top clamp.

The height of this blank is 155 centimeters. We mark it exactly in the middle and make a cut along the marking line, not reaching the edge a couple of centimeters on each side. It turns out this detail:

I was fascinated by the process, so I missed a couple of stages, I didn’t take pictures.
We chamfer the upper edge, make it more streamlined.
Step 4. Now you need to make a detail for attaching easel legs. To do this, take a plank, a bar 15 centimeters long. We grind it and grind it in the corners from four sides. We drill holes for attaching the legs. Immediately made the upper holder for the canvas. In height, it is as comfortable as you like, it does not matter. The main thing is that its lower edge in the raised state at the very top of the sliding bar should be flush with the cutout.

Step 5. We drill holes in the legs for fastening. We take a bolt, three washers and fasten the legs now to the base.

We perform similar actions with the second leg. As a result, we should get something like this:

We drill a hole for the slotted bar in the fastening blank.
Step 6. We begin to fasten the slotted bar, on which canvas holders will be attached, so to speak, the basis of our future easel.
In order to secure this part, we need two wide washers so that they do not fit into the slot when displaced. I tightened the bolts so far so that the parts were well fixed. As a result, this is what happens:

Step 7 Now Making the Picture Holders. I start from the top of the easel. To do this, I took the already prepared parts and began to connect them. I made the connection with the help of small nails. Holds tight, looks neat. In order not to split the planks, I drilled small holes for nails in the attachment points.

We smooth the corners along the edges of the workpiece.

Step 8. In the received part, we drill in the middle hole for attaching to the sliding bar.

Now we take a bolt, washer and nut and attach it to the base of the easel.

It turns out such a design.

Step 9 Now we need to assemble the canvas support, which will be attached at the bottom of the sliding bar. To do this, I needed two boards 70 centimeters long. We skin them. Just as with the upper holder, we drill small holes for nails along the edge of the attachment of the parts. We collect details.

In the finished part, in the middle, we drill holes for fastening.

Step 10. Now attach the canvas stand to the sliding bar. You will also need a wide washer.

As a result, such a prefabricated part comes out.

Step 11. The next step is to decide on the size. canvases to be installed and accordingly drill holes in the legs and support of the canvas to fix the canvas at a certain height. Since I almost always paint on stretchers of the same size, I adjusted the height accordingly to my canvases.

Step 12 Canvas Support Fasteners I decided to make the legs out of wood. Simple wooden pegs. I took an ordinary piece of plank, cut it with a clerical knife to fit the diameter of the hole and sanded it.

It turned out such pegs.

Step 13 Now we need to assemble and attach support leg to the base of the easel. There, where we have already fixed the legs themselves and the sliding bar. To do this, we will need wood screws and a small loop. I made a support leg 155 centimeters long.

For a beginner, as well as for a professional in drawing, one day the question arises of buying an easel. The store may be overpriced or the desired option is out of stock. Solution: purchase materials and make an easel for drawing with your own hands. First you need to determine what requirements the product must meet: appearance, scheme, color. An accurate picture in the head gives a practical final version.

What is an easel?

An easel is a stand for drawing pictures, mostly U-shaped. In the manufacture of wood or metal is used. It is a frame for fixing the canvas, which is placed on three legs or two stands. There are options for desktop, children's easels or tablets that are used for drawing or creating blueprints.

Easel device

The design consists of a central wooden plank, to which a latch, an arrow, and a canvas shelf are attached. The latch adjusts the height and angle of inclination. The arrow and the shelf are a single whole. Attaches to center post. Determines the height using slots and a rod with a handle. The elements are connected on a strong base that can withstand several canvases.

Species

  • Lyra. The most common type is considered student. It is a stable, compact folding tripod. The main plus is a wide subframe, light weight. There is only a floor version, it is not used horizontally. The angle of inclination varies in many ways: in some types it is possible to direct the top of the easel towards the artist.
  • Clapper easel. Often used by beginners. Work is carried out with thick paper, which is attached to a button or adhesive tape, because. this view does not have upper and lower clamps. The stand has four legs. The height depends on the location of the back rail. Pros - simplicity, strength, the ability to work standing or sitting, regardless of age.
  • Tablet. Refers to universal desktop machines. The design is simple (only a frame and legs), it has no clamps, no clamps, no additional shelves. Therefore, for fixing, as in the previous version, a button is used. The angle of inclination depends on the position of the retractable rear leg. You can work on it only with small canvases.
  • Transforming easel. Universal option. They are used both for drawing and for drawing up drawings. It has a large number of functions: the canvas can be defined in a vertical position, in a horizontal position, choose any level of inclination. It is convenient to work sitting both on a simple chair and on a high one. Work is carried out with materials of medium size.
  • Studio easels. Option for large professional works. In this case, there are many options at hand: height adjustment, tilt angle selection, a special compartment for brushes and paints. Differs in large dimensions, stability when working even with large canvases, reliable fastening of canvases and the absence of horizontal installation.
  • Tripod. An easel with three legs. The main feature is the great mobility of the rod, various variations of the position to horizontal, lightness. Suitable for outdoor work. In the home and studio version, the design is unstable, but the canvas must be securely fastened. When working on a tripod, small or medium blades are used.

Dimensions

In addition to the options listed, machines can be made for children, desktop or folding. The dimensions of the easel for drawing depend on the canvas: small in size like a landscape sheet and A3 (desktop, tablet). Medium ones work with a canvas up to 1 meter (Lyre). On large ones, you can create works from 1-2 meters or more (Lyra or studio).

How to make an easel with your own hands

When the goal is determined, and in the head there is a clear picture of the easel with your own hands, you can proceed to the main stage - manufacturing. To make an easel at home, you will need a drawing with dimensions and tools:

  • self-tapping screws, 2 anchors with a nut;
  • saw;
  • strap;
  • sandpaper;
  • drill;
  • drill;
  • hammer;
  • screwdriver;

In this example, a medium-sized do-it-yourself easel scheme is considered. The size and volume of the material depends on this:

  • 5 bars 20 mm (thickness), 40 mm (width) and 250 cm long;
  • bar 40 mm (thickness), 40 mm (width) and 250 cm length;
  • 30 mm loop.

When all the materials are at hand, you can start assembling the easel with your own hands. For safety, it is better to work with gloves. Suitable disposable materials. Further step-by-step instructions: "making an easel":

  1. On the bars 20/40, measure two of 170 cm and two of 140 cm. Saw the marked bars, process with sandpaper, rounding the corners.
  2. On bars 170 cm from the top, mark 95, 105, 115, 125, 135, 145 cm, make holes in them with a drill and process with sandpaper. Combine in one design.
  3. On a 70 cm bar, mark 1 by 13 cm from two edges. Make holes so that two points (1 and 13 cm) can be connected. Treat with sandpaper.
  4. Fix the resulting side to the base. Put the shelf in the right place, secure with anchors and nuts.
  5. Attach one end of the strap to the leg, the other to the middle bar (connects two legs) with bolts.
  6. Varnish.

The instruction described on how to assemble an easel is universal. In this example, you can create any kind, give a variety of forms, only the details change. An easel with your own hands can be made of the following types:

  • The desktop easel is compact in the literal sense: it can be placed directly on the table. In the manufacture of the lower bar - 600 by 20 by 40. A bar is attached to it - 600 by 10 by 40 is also one. Small upper bar - 250 by 20 by 40 1 pc. Rear rack - 150 by 20 by 40 1 pc. In addition, you will need a furniture hinge, 6x50 bolts, washers and nuts.
  • Folding is convenient for transportation or storage at home behind a closet. It can be removed to a secluded place without disassembling completely. To make it fold, you need to nail a sliding bar to all materials. It is attached to the canvas support and to the leg. In this case, the machine in a folding state reaches the size of a conventional thickened bar.
  • Children's homemade easel is smaller than the classic one. To create a homemade easel of this kind, you need to build on the growth of the child, determine the size of the main bar from it. Attach with self-tapping screws 2 slats of 50 cm each (to the front leg), 2 of 40 cm each (to the racks on the side), a wooden lath of round section 60 cm. If there are several children, you can make the structure double-sided. Then the drawing of the easel with dimensions will resemble the letter "A".
  • The flapper is the easiest kind to make. 4 rails of the same size (base) are fastened with leg rails, laid with a plywood sheet, sanded with sandpaper. You can start drawing.
  • The tripod differs from all types in that the inner sides (the junction of the front and back bars) must form an equilateral triangle. The tripod is easy to fold. It is necessary to fasten the card loop and attach it at the top connection so that it does not stagger, is stable.
  • The draftsman's easel, also known as a transformer, is made according to the same principle as folding views. The joint of the joints is fastened with loops, which later help to take the form that is needed.

Such a handmade table easel is a great helper for an amateur artist.

Of course, you can buy a ready-made easel, but the trouble is that they are quite expensive.

To repeat the design, dry planed pine slats 15 mm thick are needed. You will also need M6 bolts with wing nuts, washers, a small piece of 15 mm plywood for the table.

The design and assembly diagram of the easel are shown in the figure. The list of parts and their dimensions are summarized in the table.

The design of the easel allows you to fix frames with canvas of various sizes at a height convenient for the draftsman and at the desired slope. Both the music rest D and the latch have screw clamps that, when loosened, can be moved along the legs of the stage A.

The desired tilt of the easel is provided by turning the levers C1 O. One of the levers has a slotted groove 6.5 mm wide, which allows you to change the arms of the system.

The fixed connections of the easel parts are made on dowels with glue, the movable ones are made with the help of bolts and wing nuts.

Before assembly, the cut, sanded wooden parts of the easel with the necessary grooves and holes must be coated with a colorless varnish. The quality of the easel itself, and the ease and convenience of working with it, will depend on the thoroughness of the manufacture of parts.
